Cambridge rowers fined for urinating and bad language in races

Rowers at Cambridge University have been fined for urinating in public, using foul and abusive language and drinking alcohol while competing in the annual May Bumps races.

Three boats were fined after their crew members urinated in front of members of the public during the traditional 200-year-old competition on the River Cam.

Cambridge University Combined Boat Clubs (CUCBC) has given boats from Selwyn, Caius and St Edmund's colleges a fine of £80 each for their unacceptable behaviour during the races between college boat clubs.
Another student was fined £50 for using abusive language to an umpire and a supporter of one of the King's College teams was made to pay £20 for using offensive language in public.
One team was reprimanded for drinking alcohol while rowing and three boats were fined £50 each for not wearing life jackets.
Rowers from St Edmund's College were punished for damaging the riverbank after dragging part of a tree back to the boat to celebrate their success.
