The new Children's Laureate, Malorie Blackman, will be one of the stars of the 2013 Telegraph Bath Festival of Children's Literature.

The event, now in its seventh year, is the largest dedicated children’s book festival in the UK and has award-winning author David Almond as its Guest Artistic Director. He said: "This great festival celebrates the fact that children’s literature sits right at the heart of our culture.”

Among the other speakers at the festival, which runs from Friday 27, September to Sunday 6 Ocotber, will be Michael Rosen, Cressida Cowell, illustrator Axel Scheffler, Judith Kerr, Jeremy Strong, Charlie Higson, Meg Rosoff and Sally Gardner.
In addition, there is a programme of events for younger children and the Bath Young Curators will debate a range of issues from food safety to new technology in schools. The Holburne Museum hosts interactive workshops for children from Horror Writing to book illustration and hundreds of school children will gather throughout the week at the Guildhall for a full schools programme of special events, launched by former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion. There will also be a discussion about children's literature in translation.
